China Tourism Statistics in the First Half of 2017
I. Domestic tourism growth exceeded expectation
Findings of a survey of China domestic tourism showed that the domestic tourism industry registered 2.537 billion tourist trips in the first half of 2017, up 13.5% compared with the same period of last year, of which 1.757 billion were urban residents and 0.78 billion were rural residents, up 15.8% and 8.5% respectively. Domestic tourism revenue reached 2.17 trillion yuan, 15.8% greater than the previous year, of which 1.71 trillion yuan was contributed by urban residents and 460 billion by rural residents, an increase of 16.1% and 14.8% respectively.
II. Inbound tourism continued to grow steadily
In the first half of 2017, inbound tourist trips amounted to 69.5 million, up 2.4% compared with the same period of last year, of which 14.25 million were made by foreigners, an increase of 5.8%.The international tourism revenue reached 60.1 billion USD, up 4.3% from the same period of last year.
III. Outbound Tourism maintained stable growth
In the first half of 2017, outbound tourist visits by Chinese nationals reached 62.03 million, up 5.1% compared with the same period of last year.
