China Tourism Year Launched in Almaty, Kazakhstan
On April 19, CNTA vice chairman Du Jiang joined Arystanbek Muhamediuly, Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan at the opening ceremony of the 17th Kazakhstan International Tourism Fair (KITF) hosted at Atakent Exhibition Center, Almaty. The China Tourism Year was launched at the opening ceremony.
In his address, Du said: The Silk Road has brought the Chinese and the Kazakh people close to each other. It’s in Kazakhstan that Chinese president Xi Jinping proposed the initiative to build the Silk Road Economic Belt. Hosting the China Tourism Year in Kazakhstan is a joint decision made by state heads of the two countries to promote long-term bilateral friendship and marks a milestone in their bilateral tourism cooperation. I hope that tourism professionals in both countries would make full use of the tourism year campaign and harvest more fruits from bilateral tourism exchange and cooperation.
Muhamediuly thanked Du and the Chinese delegation for attending the opening ceremony. He noted: China and Kazakhstan are close to each other geographically and culturally. Both are proud of their splendid cultural heritage and beautiful scenery and enjoy broad prospects for tourism cooperation. I hope that we will strengthen communication through the tourism year campaign and take effective measures to drive continuous growth in bilateral tourism exchange.
The KITF is the biggest and the most influential tourism fair in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Chinese exhibition booths at the event were designed and decorated in such a way to highlight the China Tourism Year. The CNTA office in Moscow organized tourism authorities, airlines and travel agencies from Hainan, Xinjiang and other Chinese provinces (regions) to exhibit at the show. The cross-border self-drive tour group organized by Xinjiang Commission for Tourism Development also showed up at the exhibition.
To celebrate the launch of China Tourism Year and showcase China’s image as a tourist destination, on the night of April 19, “China Tourism Night” was staged at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Almaty. It was attended and addressed by Mr. Du, Mr. Muhamediuly, mayor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baibek and Chinese consul-general Zhang Wei in Almaty.
