The Tourism Ministers’ Meeting of Countries along the Belt and Road was convened in Chengdu as a side event of the 22nd UNWTO General Assembly on September 13. CNTA Chairman Li Jinzao and UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai made keynote speeches. Tourism ministers from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Cambodia and other countries along the Belt and Road discussed how to further tourism cooperation, responded positively to the Chengdu Initiative on Strengthen Tourism Cooperation along the Belt and Road, and reached extensive consensus on how to deepen cooperation and better share fruits of tourism development under the Belt and Road Initiative.

In his speech, Li noted: “The Belt and Road Initiative has received warm response from over 100 countries and international organizations and formed extensive international consensus since it was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping four years ago. Since then, China has entered into cooperation agreements with over 60 countries and international organizations, many of which highlight the positive role of tourism in international connectivity. The Belt and Road Initiative is a people-oriented project to build a community of shared destiny linking China and other countries along the Belt and Road. It is important to boost the development of the tourism industry which is highly compatible with and can strongly stimulate the development of other industries, and to cement the people-to-people bond along the Belt and Road through tourism development.”
