Guilin Convenes 2017 China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition and the 11th UNWTO/PATA Anniversary Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook Department of Tourism Promotion and International Liaison

On October 11, the 2017 China-ASEAN Expo Tourism Exhibition, co-hosted by CNTA and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was unveiled at Guilin International Convention and Exhibition Center. CNTA vice chairman Du Jiang announced the opening of the event at the opening ceremony which attracted distinguished guests such as Guangxi’s vice governor Zhang Xiaoqin, Guilin’s Party secretary Zhao Leqin, UNWTO’s executive director Matthew Favila, PATA CEO Mario Hardy, Indonesia’s vice tourism minister I Gde Pitana, and Lao vice tourism minister Otong Kopan.

The three-day exposition is themed on “Create a New Chapter of Tourism Cooperation along the Belt and Road”, covers an exhibition area of 25,000 square meters and attracts exhibitors from 62 countries and regions as well as 17 Chinese provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities directly under the central government. The country of honor for this year is Indonesia.

On the same day, Du Jiang also attended and addressed the 11th UNWTO/PATA Anniversary Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook. He remarked, “The tourism industry has grown into a major engine behind global economic growth. As Chinese president Xi Jinping pointed out, ‘Tourism creates a major channel for the exchange and mutual learning between different countries and cultures and is an effective way to boost economic development and create jobs, and a pillar industry to improve people’s livelihood.’ To vigorously developing tourism is a decision made by the Chinese government to adapt to the new normal of economic and social development, advance transformation and upgrade and enhance people’s wellbeing.” He hoped that attendees would make the best of this forum to learn from each other, enhance communication and deepen cooperation with each other and jointly promote sustainable, healthy tourism development at the international and regional levels.

One day earlier, Du Jiang and Zhang Xiaoqin held a meeting with some VIP attendees and both attended activities of the 7th Guilin International Scenery Culture & Tourism Festival.
