Tourism Statistics Report of “Oct. 1” Gold Week 2008

As required in the “Tourism information statistics survey system for ‘Gold Weeks’” jointly formulated by the National Tourism Administration and National Bureau of Statistics, 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China conducted statistics survey of the receiving scale and revenues of their respective jurisdiction areas during the “Oct. 1” Gold Week. The summarized results by the National Tourism Administration and National Bureau of Statistics are as follows:


(I) During the “Oct. 1” Gold Week period of 2008, a total of 178 million tourists were received, up 22.1% than 2007, and tourism revenue totaled RMB79.6 billion, up 24.2% than 2007; the per capita expenditure of tourists was RMB448.


(II) Among the 178 million tourists received during the “Oct. 1” Gold Week period, there were 42.69 million overnight travelers (only those staying in guesthouses, hotels and reception houses), up 13.5% than 2007; and 135 million one-day travelers, up 25.0% than 2007. The tourism revenue of RMB79.6 billion included RMB3.931 billion of passenger transport by civil aviation, up 33.8% than 2007; RMB1.996 billion of passenger transport by railway, up 35.0% than 2007; the 39 major tourism cities realized tourism revenue of RMB34 billion, and other tourism cities and scenic spots realized tourism revenue of RMB39.7 billion.


(III) The 39 major tourism cities included in the national holiday tourism statistics and forecast system, i.e. Beijing, Tianjin, Chengde, Qinhuangdao, Shenyang, Dalian, Changchun, Jilin, Harbin, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Huangshan, Xiamen, Nanchang, Ruijin, Qingdao, Luoyang, Wuhan, Changsha, Zhangjiajie, Shaoshan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Guilin, Haikou, Sanya, Chongqing, Chengdu, Guang’an, Guiyang, Zunyi, Kunming, Xi’an, Yan’an and Yinchuan, received 67.64 million tourists during the “Oct. 1” Gold Week period, including 15.73 million overnight travelers (counted the same as above) and 51.92 million one-day tourists, both increasing over the same period of 2007.


(IV) The 119 tourist areas included in the national holiday tourism statistics and forecast system received 18.29 million visitors during the “Oct. 1” Gold Week period, with admission ticket income of RMB838 million.


(V) During the “Oct. 1” Gold Week period in the 39 major tourism cities, the 177 commercial enterprises under monitoring realized total sales income of RMB7.81 billion, up 21.1% than 2007; and the 177 catering providers under monitoring realized total sales income of RMB389 million, up 13.8% than 2007.
