The 2nd Plenary Conference of Tourism Promotion Steering Team of Expo Shanghai 2010 held in Shanghai

On June 29, the 2nd Plenary Conference of Tourism Promotion Steering Team of Expo Shanghai 2010 was held in Shanghai. The main contents of the conference comprise implementing the “high quality, high efficiency, and high level” standard, as required by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, in all sorts of preparation for the Shanghai Expo, as well as the guiding spirit of “pulling together all power of the nation and taking advantage of the wisdom worldwide” put forward by vice premier Wang Qishan to better host the Expo; reviewing the tourism promotion work done since the first plenary conference and planning work for the next stage. Hanzheng, Vice-secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mayor of the city and Deputy Director of the Organizing Committee of Expo Shanghai 2010, attended the conference and delivered a speech. The conference was chaired by Shao Qiwei, Chairman of CNTA, Member of the Organizing Committee of Expo Shanghai 2010 , and leader of the steering team. Some 100 guests were present at the conference, including Vice Mayor of People's Government of Shanghai Municipality Zhaowen and representatives from CNTA, International Communication Office of CCCPC, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Railway, Ministry of Culture, State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, Civil Aviation Administration of China, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, People's Government of Shanghai Municipality, tourism bureaus of 31 provinces, regions and municipalities, relevant units of Shanghai municipality, Tourism Bureau of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps , as well as part of tourism and aviation enterprises.
In Hanzheng’s speech, he pointed out that the Expo Shanghai 2010 is a glorious cause with tremendous responsibility and tough mission. Thus we have to further intensify our responsibility and make high standard and high-level preparation for the event; grasp tightly the historical opportunity and penetrate into and materialize the themes of the Expo; give full play to the effects of the Expo by making use of its commercial opportunities; and enhance urban construction and service level of Shanghai in an all-round manner to better serve the country.
Later on, in Shao Qiwei’s speech, he introduced the work results of the Tourism Promotion Steering Team of Expo Shanghai 2010 in the past two years since its foundation, analyzed the new situation facing the promotion work, and also made clear the priorities at the next stage.
In regard to the priorities at the next stage of the promotion work, Shao Qiwei required that the Expo Park tourists’ target to be achieved by all means; all departments divide the work according to their duties and responsibilities so as to ensure all work carried out and planned objectives accomplished overall, and make their due contributions to making the Shanghai World Expo a successful, excellent, and memorable world event.
At the conference CNTA Vice Chairman Zhu Shanzhong reported the working progress since the 1st plenary conference of the steering team. Moreover, representatives from member units of the team also discussed on how to further improve the tourism promotion work.
During the conference, a premiere ceremony of the promotion video “Tourism on Expo 2010” was initiated. The video is designed and shot by special agencies and professional organizations, designated by CNTA in association with the Tourism Bureau of Shanghai, to boost the image of Shanghai for the purpose of major promotion activities held at home and abroad.
After the premiere ceremony, “Award Ceremony of Tourism Promotion Station of Expo Shanghai 2010” was staged. Tourism bureaus of 31 provinces, regions and cities, as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in China were honored “Tourism Promotion Station of Expo Shanghai 2010”.
According to the statistics from the conference, currently a total of 239 countries, regions, and international organizations have officially confirmed participation in the Expo, among which 48 are international organizations. It is estimated that 70 million tourists will visit the Shanghai World Expo.
